Artuner is pleased to present a series of artworks by Manuele Cerutti, seen in the artist’s studio. Presented as an integral part of the studio environment, the artworks underline Manuele Cerutti’s ongoing research and explorations of subjects and objects.
The series presents a constellation of small to large paintings executed between 2014 and 2022; the “Soliloquio” series, especially, has seen ongoing research and expansion since the 2020 exhibition "Dona Ferentes". The production follows the path carved during the residency at the American Academy in Rome in 2022 into further explorations and contemplations.
Smaller canvases emerge as character standpoints and studies, dotting the echo chamber of objects and concepts, memories intertwining as the outside spills inside. The studio is the stage for the elements to become individuals. Lost and found, they regroup in harmonies and compositions questioning the self; in between a cabinet of curiosities and an altar honouring “what-has-been”, a countertop offers bones and clay remains, jagged metal tools and found drawings. Plastic dinosaurs occasionally emerge, quietly roaring the previous presence of Manuele’s son.
In the studio, corners become time capsules: objects and characters share spaces and surfaces, almost colluding, they whisper their stories and bestowed memories and folklore. Objects and self-portraiture become mediums and symbols for allegories and metaphors, vessels built on the act of correlation creating new identities, often defying their original purpose. As they establish memories, they build a presence and root in the space, continuously transforming in the compositions created by Manuele.
